The effect of online on print process, perception and market.
As the dynamics of publishing change what are the effects of being able to deliver content online before it appears in hard copy?
As we change from product to service what are the implications for the traditional publisher?
What perceptions need to be broken?
How is the market demand changing?
The questions are many, providing some of the answers are two highly qualified speakers.
From a completely online perspective, Jan Velterop of Biomedcentral, will look how perceptions differ from reality. He will discuss how online access has changed the market requirements as well as considering if print does offer anything that online cannot. Jan will also make some predictions on the future shape of the publishing industry.
Ed Wates, UK Journal Production Director for Blackwell Publishing Ltd, will then follow with an exposé from his vast experience on the issues surrounding the production, versioning and editorial change required to move to Online Early in traditional journal publishing. Ed will cover several aspects including pre-print, author communication and payment as well as the effect on workflow and schedules.
This talk should appeal to Publishing Strategists trying to determine market direction, Marketers in knowing how to catch the demand, Production Editors and Editors in looking at the problems associated with changing work patterns as well as Online Publishers looking at how the competition is shaping up.
