Food from several nations was very much on the minds of those who attended the OPuS International Event on 29 January.
It could hardly fail to be when the delegates arrived to find a veritable feast of tasty dishes waiting for them ranging from tapas to Moroccan cuisine.
Once the important part of the evening was out of the way, no fewer than five speakers gave short talks on some of the many international aspects of publishing.
Roger Horton from Taylor & Francis plc spoke about globalisation (and the importance of the Chinese market in particular) as well as local pricing and the potential difficulties facing publishers from country to country.
Professor Paul Richardson then gave us a flavour of the courses offered by the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies and spoke of the benefits the school could give to both the publishing industry and the students who attended the courses.
Finally, three current students, from India, China and Norway, gave a lively and entertaining account of some of their experiences while studying at the Centre.
All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable event and one that seems set to become an annual fixture (so long as the food is as good next year!)
Back by popular demand!
The food is from several Oxford restaurants specialising in Japanese, Lebanese, Indian, Greek, and Spanish to name a few. The drink is plentiful and the company sublime.
The format is lots of food and drink and chat, with some 10-minute mid dinner speeches from 4 guest speakers.
Tickets are only £10 and are available by contacting:
secretary@opusnet.co.uk
Tickets are still available but given the popularity of last year's event we expect them to sell out fast!
The guest speakers are:
Professor Paul Richardson who is Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, Oxford Brookes University, Roger Horton, Executive Director responsible for Global Book Operations, Taylor & Francis plc and Managing Director Taylor & Francis Book Company and two celebrity students from Brookes.
The speakers will talk about their own experiences in International Publishing and the role of British publishing on the international stage.
The tickets cost £10 for OPuS members, £5 for students and £15 for non-members.
Over 100 people came last year and thoroughly enjoyed the event. We look forward to seeing you a second time.
