Google Print – what is all the fuss about?

Date: 04 October 2005   Drinks: 18:30   Talk Starts: 19:30 OPuS Event

Description

Over the summer a fierce debate has developed in the trade press and in the national press about the launch of GooglePrint and its potential implications for the book industry and wider cultural issues.

Come along to hear about the issues first hand! In a nutshell: GooglePrint offers free digitisation of books to publishers and then makes the full text of any book searchable on Google while only giving access to a snippet of the full text.

The Vice President of European Operations for Google, Nikesh Arora, will open up the issues from his perspective.

Google believes that Googleprint creates new opportunities for ‘print on demand services’ companies. Suzanne Wilson-Higgins, Commercial Director for Lightning-Source in the UK will talk about the growing demand for digitisation and print of demand services.

The meeting will be chaired by Marga Beuth, independent consultant for Internet Publishing and OPuS committee member.
