Piracy in Publishing

Date: 26 March 2009   Drinks: 18:30   Talk Starts: 19:30 OPuS Event

Description

Speakers: Chris Paterson and Mark Majurey

Cheap, high-quality printing is becoming more available in many Asian countries, and this is resulting in a frightening escalation in local piracy, including the commercial photocopying of standard texts, which is a threat to many publishers.

Chris Paterson, one of the UK's experts in piracy, has had hands-on experience of this growing threat from his time at Macmillan Publishers and during his tenure as Chairman of the Publishers Association International Board. Come and hear about his personal experiences of fighting piracy in China, India, Pakistan and the Middle East.

Also learn about the growing threat of internet-enabled crime to publishers, authors and consumers from Mark Majurey, Director of Digital Development at Taylor and Francis.

Speakers

Chris Paterson — Formerly of Macmillan Publishers and Chairman of the Publishers Association International Board

Mark Majurey — Director of Digital Development at Taylor and Francis
